Sampler Quilts were traditional made for quilters to practise, perfect and try out a variety of different blocks. They were then joined together, usually with simple sashing between them to frame each block, to showcase the quilter’s work and use as a reference for future quilts. It’s the same now, as making a Sampler Quilt is a really good way of learning how to make different blocks as well as learning a whole host of piecing techniques along the way. You can then keep the instructions to build up your own quilt block library and use them to make smaller items if you prefer.
